Radiology & Imaging
Neurosurgery is a very precise field that requires radiological imaging to aid in diagnosing and treating neurologic disorders. During your evaluation with us, x-ray, CT and MRI will be critical tools in the course of your treatment. For your convenience and comfort, our Eastwind care center includes radiological services provided by Mount Carmel Health Systems. Your radiological needs can be met during your clinical visit with us.
What is It?
Radiology is a specialty that utilizes medical imaging technologies to detect and diagnose spinal and neurological problems. These tools make it easier for our surgeons to understand your condition so they can prescribe the right treatment and medication. The tools we use include x-ray, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is primarily used to visualize the structure and function of the body. It provides detailed images of the body in any plane. MRI has much greater soft tissue contrast than computed tomography (CT) making it especially useful in neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and oncological imaging. MRI uses a powerful magnetic field to reconstruct an image of the body.
Computed tomography (CT) imaging uses x-rays in conjunction with computing algorithms to image the body. CT scans produce 3-D images of the body, providing surgeons with cross-section views of veins, arteries and organs.
